Who We Serve
Adults
Behavioral health provides specialty mental health services for adult Medi-Cal beneficiaries who have moderate to severe mental health conditions. Behavioral Health also provides substance use disorder treatment for all Medi-Cal beneficiaries. If you don’t have insurance, we can help find out if you qualify or refer you to someone who can.
Accessing Adult Behavioral Health Services:
- Call Nevada County Behavioral Health at (530) 265-1437 to request services.
- You will be given a screening tool (a series of questions about your mental health) to help determine what level of support might be beneficial to you.
- The Behavioral Health Representative will either schedule an intake assessment at Behavioral Health or provide a warm hand-off (direct connection) to your health care plan to connect you to services there.
- The assessment will either result in you meeting criteria for Specialty Mental Health Services or you do not require that level of care. If you meet the necessary criteria to receive services through Behavioral Health, a therapist will work with you on the next steps and options available to you. If you do not meet criteria for services, you will be referred back to your health care plan to locate a mental health provider near you who accepts your insurance (see Getting Help Private Insurance).
Accessing Substance Use Disorder Services:
- Call Nevada County Behavioral Health at (530) 265-1437 to request services.
- You will be given a screening tool (a series of questions about your mental health) to help determine what level of support might be beneficial to you.
- If you screen for detox or residential treatment, you will be assigned a Substance Use Disorder Care Coordinator (case manager) to help navigate you into treatment.
- If you screen for outpatient and/or Medication Assisted Treatment services, the Nevada County Behavioral Health representative who administered the screening tool will provide you with appropriate resources for that level of care.
- Client contacts the outpatient and/or Medication Assisted Treatment provider on their own to get started with services.
Children and Youth
Behavioral Health serves children and youth who have Nevada County Medi-Cal and meet moderate to severe criteria for behavioral health treatment including: recent psychiatric hospitalization, Probation or Child Welfare involvement, significant challenges at school, homelessness, or a complex combination of concerns that may involve trauma, depression or anxiety symptoms, and housing instability. If you don’t have insurance, we can help find out if you qualify or refer you to someone who can.
